Houston weather is like GuangZhou, 6 months' summer.
Traffic is bad during peak hour. China town is at southwest of Houston, lots of Chinese restaurants and clinics. No state income tax, but high property tax (~3%).
Usually people has the job location first, then buys a house close to it. you are doing it backwards.
For accounting jobs, I know E&Y, DC, KPMG all have big offices in downtown. Lots of opportunities. I use www.monster.com and friends referral for job hunting.
my wife works in greenspoint, so I have to choose a house close by. I interviewed 6 elem schools and decided that Lakewood elem is the best. My suggestion, fly to Houston for a day or two to explore the real life here.
