it depends on what type of contract you had

if 1099, it is highly possible that you are not qualified for unemployment benefit. Unenployment is a kind of insurance your employer bought for you. 1099 contractors are considered self-employed, so company will not pay for your unemployment insurance.

This afternoon I just heard from NPR that the majority of the people who lost jobs are not qualified for unemployment benefit.
