The recession or depression just started and it's already having difficulty paying salaries? I doubt it can last to the day when the flowers blossom in spring.

Before you resign, talk to your manager about your current situation, telling him/her that you cannot keep renting anymore and instead can work remotely from home. Haggle hard on this issue first.
