The Great Lake states from MN to PA are called Obama's midwest firewall. This is also college's Big 10 region. Among the states (MN, IA, WI, IL, IN, MI, OH and PA) only Indiana is a solid republican state. MN, IL and PA are as blue as you can get, IA, WI are leaning more towards blue in each of the last several elections. Lastly MI and OH are solid Obama backers this time because of the auto-rescue action.
