As for the Bank bailout, they did pay back most of it with interest, for instance, WFC, GS, even AIG. The money went to FRE and FNM, they will never be back, and they will continue to ask for more. As for personal attacks, it's tricky and has a lot to do with one's own bias. Remember the famous/infamous Swift Boat "flip-flop" ad? That was attack for sure, but effective. Both party affiliates quickly adopted this "strategy".
Speaking of flip-flopping, Romney does have a reputation of switching positions all the time, and not clarifying where he stands. That was a lot more fiercely attacked by other GOPs during the primary.
This is the real danger - you vote for him to rid of Obama, but you don't know where Mitt stands.
