從不同角度看美國教育

前兩天和上大學的女兒視頻聊天。女兒說：我數學得了一個C， 我覺得很詫異，就問怎麽回事。原來她的數學教授告訴她們：不用記那些公式，考試的時候會給她們的。而到了考試的時候，來自中國的TA認為那些公式太簡單了，她們應該知道。在不知道公式的情況下，她束手無策。其實就是ctg的求導公式。我於是給她講了一下這些公式是怎麽推導出來的，發現她對三角函數的變換也不太清楚，又給她講了一下。需然，二十多年沒用，但不用翻書也推導得清清楚楚。女兒很佩服，我也很得意的對太太說：看來美國學生的數學基礎是有些問題。

馬上我就想：不對，這二十多年我一直從事別人眼中的所謂高科技工作，但這些東西從來也沒有用上過。最多就是一模型，讓計算機數字解。當年費了大量時間和精力的數理方程的解法其實就是浪費時間。仔細想想，還是美國教育的這一套實用。
