Not true. That is the point where the engine

 kicks in and starts to charge the battery. But the battery is not empty yet. The answer is really  depending on the speed of the car, any slopes in the route and how you drive the car. So many factors are involved. However, do not expect it can travel a lot longer than 15 miles on a flat surface under 30mph.
