And if timing belt is broken, cranking engine can only do more damage.

Your best hope is battery not charging by alternator (loose belt); or there is shut off valve for fuel like Ford Mustangs (need only reset).

Can you or any of your friends tell from the noise whether engine is trying to start? You probably need a multimeter or even a timing light to get more information. My favorate is using timing light to check ignition; if each spark plug wire can trig light, then the chance is low for ignition failure.
