I agree the 35 mph in the city is reasonable, but the 65 mph in the interstate freeway is too low. Look, from Washington DC to NY is about 250 miles. A driver needs 4 hours at 65 mph or 2.5 hours at 110 mph. There is a significant difference here. One way taking 2.5 h means you can complete a round business trip from Washington DC to NY in a single day without needing a hotel. This is exactly what the Germans are doing. On the other hand, however, their high speed autobahn makes their high-speed trains so miserable.
