春花秋月何時了，

往事知多少？

小樓昨夜又東風，

故國不堪回首月明中！

 

雕欄玉砌應猶在，

隻是朱顏改。

問君能有幾多愁？

恰似一江春水向東流。

When would spring flowers and autumn moon recur not,

Then would bygones thus ever be forgot?

Last night, east wind once more visited my small house,

The lament of lost land the bright moon did arouse.

 

Although the jade steps and sculpted handrails might stay,

The visages have lost their rosy ray.

If asked, how much rancour dwells in my breast...?

Ah, like a spring river rolling east without rest.
