感謝上帝：我跟權力重輪一點兒都不沾邊，反而是被它壓碎的活魂之一。

I THANK thee that I am none of the wheels of power but I am one with the living creatures that are crushed by it.

（泰戈爾的以非暴力抵抗暴政的思想啟發了很多後來人，包括聖雄甘地。泰戈爾是生活在英國殖民時期的印度。我們可以想像他說這話的含義，並且對曆史或現今的意義。
在信仰層麵，作為暴政的一部分，雖然個人會獲得現世的榮華富貴，但這些榮華富貴都是被無辜者的血所沾汙，所以泰戈爾要避之唯恐不及 ------ 不然，要下地獄的！ ----- 呂注）

(Crush 是“壓碎”，是“鎮壓”。所以鄭和曾的“壓在“，“壓倒”都沒有反映出泰戈爾的原意。詩，常常是雙關語，一詞多義。泰戈爾放 crushed 在這裏，意味深長，尤其 crush 有“鎮壓”的意思。所以說：“Poetry is what gets lost in translation”。現在會讀英文的人愈來愈多，還是直接細細品味泰戈爾的英文，比任何中文翻譯更有味道。----- 呂注)
