Into the Wild

May 19, 2005. Hey, a long weekend. Boat, umbrellas, fishing gears all in place, we set for the seaside.

Driving on the beach well validates a 4-wheel drive automobile. The loose sand traps a car so easily that you could do nothing about it once it is in. Sun was burning without any mercy on the dry white beach; only a few clouds floated in the perfectly blue sky. From time to time little one-seat flying equipments were making a heck of a noise in the air. Sea had been mild in a deep blue color, with people running around in it. Motor boats were dashing on the waters leaving white flashes and roaring sound behind. It was quite a day.

Fishing had been going on and they were thrown into some big coolers, plenty of them. Oven was set up, Charcoal was lit, and more heat came to this already-burning beach under the blazing sun in a somewhat warm wind which drifted the smoke away. I was sweating like hell; one had to feel good in this setting of things around you. Fishes were cleaned and wrapped in aluminum foil with sauce in it and set on the oven.

Tables were set, fishes were served. What a feast! I have to admit in half an hour I finished seven of them and was still waiting for more beside the oven. Corns and potatoes were tossed on the still-burning-hot ashes. Wine and beers were taken. Some started to sing and walk in the shallow sea waters; some were saying how nice life would be like this; some were laying in the chair under the umbrella and watching the farther sea; some were chatting and slowly dozed off into an afternoon nap in the tents; others were simply walking far along the seaside and seeing everybody around.

Darkness overtook the world now. Camp fire was still burning far away. Sitting in the armchair, a beer in hand, people were chatting before they finally returned to the tents for the night. So I stayed as the last one, moved closer to the sea, tried to look into the heavy darkness and could not wait to hear what the sea had to tell. Tides came on quietly, firmly, consistently and softly. There were only a few stars far beyond. Could I sum up what I had experienced in this world for so many years? I was anxious to do it with no hesitation or fear. Could I bear the many old happenings full of shocks and excitements which decisively painted and marked those days and unavoidably set me on the way to today’s better myself? Yes, I could do it and do it well. It turned out to be some smooth, peaceful and gentle thoughts, coming from those little corners where they had been hidden or shadowed for years. Maybe I had many other thoughts; however as for now when I am writing, I have a happy heart and could not really recall any negative or unhappy thoughts for then. However it was a heck of an experience for me to sit quietly under the silent sky facing the gentle sea tides. The spirit of sleepiness slowly stole its way in between me and the sea and I lay down in the car to hear some small drops of rain.

Things changed quickly, though. In the midst of the night I was waken by people’s shouts and looked out of the window only to see people running about in the gust of wind and pouring rain. I started to eat whatever available in the car for the hours to run by till everything calm down again with some whites rising from the east in the sea. People could not wait to leave now; they wrapped up things and withdrew from the beach in a hurry. After half an hour they found themselves in a McDonald’s - drinking hot coffee or milk. How nice is the civilized life!

After all it turned out to be a good weekend, a crazy one, an exciting one, and a forget-not one.

So I shall have to rush to the end with this thing on the night of the July 25th, 2005. For I could not really write things in such a strange mood.  I am not exactly sure what it is. But I do have some clues – it must have something to do with the happiness -  floating in the air and touchinging on the keys of a musical instrument. For I do not know how to describe the happiness I have had in my heart these days.  Out of the long raining days in this city has come a happy heart and happy mind. It has turned the sky crystal blue and sparkling sunny. I shall be so happy to say to the world: SO BE IT! MY HEART SHALL SING FOR THE BEAUTIFUL!
