神創論在中國和西方都有市場。西方創造人類的是上帝，中國創造人類的是女媧。
神創論屬於神話傳說，我們可以用各種所謂的邏輯和經驗來說明他們的無稽，但是如果我們換一種眼光，當我們用思想文化的角度來看這兩個故事時，我們也許會看到一些新的東西。
先看看上帝造人的曆史，上帝用了六天創造世界[一]。在這六天中，上帝先創造天地，通過天地的光明變化知道了時間；上帝接著創造了大陸和海洋；接著創造了植物；接著創造了動物；再接著創造了人類， 男人和女人，女人是男人的一部分，人類剛開始是沒有羞恥感的。
我們再看看女媧造人類的故事[二]。 女媧補天的故事很簡單，她用六天造了六畜，第七天造了人。 剛開始造人很努力。 按照自己的樣子造了人， 後來就偷了懶，用藤條打出了很多泥點式的小人。後來又為他們創造了“禮”。
如果光看造人的故事， 如果上帝和女媧確實是按自己的形象造了人，那麽女媧比起上帝來說恐怕差得不少。
上帝講究秩序，並且確保滿意自己造的東西。上帝造出了動植物，並且是開放式的動植物係統。上帝隻造了兩個人，並且讓他們相親相愛。人類當初， 沒有羞恥感--按照中國的說法，沒有善惡--後來在蛇的誘惑下才有了羞恥感--知道了善惡--並且承擔了後果。
女媧隻造了六畜，並且在造出了一定數量的人以後就開始偷懶。 女媧用一套禮儀規範了人類的活動。可以說，女媧造人的故事造成了人類的不平等，並且要人類維持這種不平等。
幸好女媧不僅隻是造人，女媧補天的故事基本彌補了女媧造人中的性格缺陷。
如果上帝和女媧確實按自己的形象造了人，那麽上帝注重創造， 並且力求盡善盡美， 不惜毀掉自己創造自己創造的成果。女媧剛開始力求盡善盡美， 後來就偷懶隻是按照禮儀活動，但是他們同樣有毀掉不成功作品的勇氣。 上帝和女媧都有缺點，也有很相似的地方--譬如他們全部用七天造了世界。上帝造完了人開始休息，女媧造了一些人開始偷懶。惟一不同的就是上帝認為人可以統治動植物， 並且讓人類自己去認識羞恥感。 女媧自己規範了人類的羞恥感，人類和六畜並沒有等級，隻有人和人才有等級。

女媧在造人之前，與正月初一創造出雞，初二創造狗，初三創造羊，初四創造豬，初六創造馬，初七這一天，女媧用黃土和水，仿照自己的樣子造出了一個個小泥人，她造了一批又一批，覺得太慢，於是用一根藤條，沾滿泥漿，揮舞起來，一點一點的泥漿灑在地上，都變成了人。 為了讓人類永遠的流傳下去，她創造了嫁娶之禮，自己充當媒人，讓人們懂得「造人」的方法，憑自己的力量傳宗接代。
《淮南子》：在洪荒時代，水神共工和火神祝融因故吵架而大打出手, 最後祝融打敗了共工，水神共工因打輸而羞憤的朝西方的不周山撞去, 哪知那不周山是撐天的柱子,不周山崩裂了，撐支天地之間的大柱斷折了，天倒下了半邊，出現了一個大窟窿，地也陷成一道道大裂紋，山林燒起了大火，洪水從地底下噴湧出來，龍蛇猛獸也出來吞食人民。人類麵臨著空前大災難。 女媧目睹人類遭到如此奇禍，感到無比痛苦，於是決心補天，以終止這場災難。她選用各種各樣的五色石子，架起火將它們熔化成漿，用這種石漿將殘缺的天窟窿填好，隨後又斬下一隻大龜的四腳，當作四根柱子把倒塌的半邊天支起來。女媧還擒殺了殘害人民的黑龍，刹住了龍蛇的囂張氣焰。最後??了堵住洪水不再漫流，女媧還收集了大量蘆草，把它們燒成灰，埋塞向四處鋪開的洪流。 經過女媧一番辛勞整治，蒼天總算補上了，地填平了，水止住了，龍蛇猛獸斂跡了，人民又重新過著安樂的生活。但是這場特大的災禍畢竟留下了痕跡。從此天還是有些向西北傾斜，因此太陽、月亮和行淺慷己蘢勻壞毓橄蛭鞣劍?忠??地向東南傾斜，所以一切江河都往那裏匯流。當天空出現彩虹的時候，就是我們偉大的女媧的補天神石的彩光。

似乎女媧對人比上帝對人更好些,她至少並未讓人臣服於自己.
