⑴ 桐風：指吹過梧桐葉的秋風。壯士：詩人自稱。
⑵ 衰燈：暗淡的燈光。絡緯：蟲名，俗稱紡織娘，因秋天季節轉涼而哀鳴，其聲似紡線。寒素：白色的秋天。一說為寒布，或謂貧寒之人。
⑶ 青簡：青竹簡。一編書：指詩人的一部詩集。竹簡書久無人讀，蠹蟲就在其中生長。
⑷ 不遣：不讓。花蟲：蛀蝕器物、書籍的蟲子。蠹（dù）：蛀蝕。
⑸ 香魂吊書客：指前代詩人的魂魄來慰問詩人。香魂，才人誌士之魂，一作“鄉魂”。書客，詩人自指。
⑹ 鮑家詩：指南朝宋鮑照的詩。鮑照曾寫過《擬行路難》組詩，抒發懷才不遇之情。
⑺ “恨血”句：《莊子·外物篇》：“萇弘死於蜀，藏其血，三年化為碧。”
