“with a slam and flick”

當掄錘打鐵時， 一錘下去後， 錘會彈一下。 一錘砸下是slam， 反彈幅度很小， 是flick。 掄錘的人會利用這個時間喘息一下， 看好如何下另一錘。 從聲音的角度是重音然後是輕音， 或長音然後是短音。

其實， 多數情況下， 是師徒合作。 師傅一手用鉗子夾住鐵活， 一手拿一個小錘兒， 他在活上敲哪兒， 徒弟用大錘砸哪， 師傅的小錘是命令， 位置與輕重都唯小錘是命。 總體的效果是一輕一重， 聲音一大一小。

Seamus Heaney mentioned in his first line "All I know is a door into the dark.", which could indicated that he may not know how exactly the works in forger going. But the unique sound he mast know and the action behind the sound he may also knew or he could imagine.
