短，中，長，--- suspense....may bring more satisfaction to a 'cat' like you...

Surfers Paradise is a place for Bing to start telling a story...you are correct that the novel will sooner or later go back to it...

Gold Coast is a pure name, not as implying as the Surfers Paradise.. Paradise here is a happy, ideal place, not relating to death, cos it will be revealed that Bing is no believer, just like most Chinese.. and heaven is more to do religion...

but you got it right, Shadow is a sad hint of Bing, or .. of all lives on the earth that have to pass, have to lead an imperfect experience.. like shadows under the paradise..
