1. "A new era dawned, emperors and a few empresses,...... ceased to exist on that day."--Afterwards, Yuan Shikai was an emperor of China, albeit a very short-lived one. Puyi was an emperor in northeast China for many years.

2. "It’s easy to destroy something and it’s far difficult to build another one, particularly when people refused to keep anything from the old system and there was nothing they could rely on to build a better system."--Not sure what you mean by "nothing they could rely on." If you mean a "readily available model",which is logically necessary since you talked about "keeping anthing from the old system" in the first part of the sentence, you clearly said in the next paragraph that the American system was one. The fact is, many competing theories were on the table. People didn't refuse to keep everthing from the old system; many thought a constitutional monarch similar to the British system was a sound option, others advocated capitalist or communist republic. "It's not easy to destroy an old system, and it's far more difficult to build a new one. Many people refused to keep anything from the old, but they couldn't agree on a blueprint for the new."

3."The bunch of people who suddenly found themselves the new rulers of the nation needed to find a new way to explain to themselves and the world the nature of the system. They had something ready made for them, it was Marx’s Communism."--This part is very misleading. The communists, your "bunch of people,"didn't find themselves the new ruler "suddenly," they fought a long way in this painfully gradual process of incremental gains towrads power. Long before they were in power, they didn't "need to find a new way to explain ......;" rather the opposite, they had a very clear idea of how the new country should be and they cherished an ideal all along, for which many sacrificed their lives and without which it was impossible to overthrow the rule of the Nationalists.

4."The Chinese rulers had to adopt one of the two. Since their defeated foes took one side, they simply had no choice but to take the other side."--What?!
