討論一個枯燥的題目:英語語法

海老師對大牛哥的"On Translation"發表了一帖評論,提到幾個修改意見值得討論一下:
海老師的帖子照抄:
“You did make a lot of efforts and chose words carefully to express your ideas, which are good. However, from the writing you posted here, I find that you were still in Chinese way of thinking, not yet in English, which is not easy to get. An idiom says: easier said than done. to get the way of English thinking, you must notice and learn how Americans think in expressing certain ideas when you are reading or talking with them. Then when you want to express a certain idea, you must use the words or expressions they used in their writings or conversations with you. thus, little by little, you can write English naturally, not from your old way of Chinese thinking.

corrections:

the enthusiasm (not tendency) to translate ebbs.

Many times we read or find (not see) questions about ...

suggest TO those who (or suggest that those who ... should ...)”

海老師correction第一條,不成立。大牛哥第一句就講明了是tendency, 而且自始至終談的是tendency,是一種urge, habit,不是enthusiasm。而且the tendency to translate和the tendency ebbs and flows (wanes)都是正常的說法。
海老師correction第二條,不成立。“we see questions about" is perfectly fine。舉兩個例子:
At HHS, we see questions about proper food safety techniques pour in through Facebook, Twitter, email, and website traffic analytics.”
As we are often reminded, we live in an “information age.” Increasingly, we see questions about “information” defining our time. ”
海老師correction第三條,靠譜。大牛哥原話是“I would suggest those who ask these questions to deal with the issue of expressing their ideas the other way. ”的確是偏離了suggest的正規用法,正規來說,應該是suggest (that) *****. (should) do,而不是suggest *****. to do.
海老師用M40狙擊槍射擊3米固定靶,三槍兩不中,準頭有點差。尤其是這段用如此佶屈聱牙之英文書就的評語太牛叉了,依我看,你遠不及大牛哥的水平,如此跟人家講話不大好吧。
