You should talk with the manager and be polite. If rejected, try to get the address of his supervisor and write a formal letter:
1. You have talked with whom whom on which which date. Witness, if any. Witness who have heard that you have informed after the inform date but before the dispute date.
2. You believe that you have been waived the requirement of written notice.
3. The people you talked to probablyn has forgotten about that and caused the misunderstanding.
4. You are sure that you can reach a satisfactory agreement.
5. The leasing office and the apartment has good reputation and get lots of referrals from customer lessee.
6. You would be happy and proud to refer your friends and classmates. And wish them good business.
Will you be still refused? Probably not.
