1980年7月31日，瑞典藝術家拉爾斯.維爾克斯在瑞典西南部的Kullaberg自然保護區獨自開始了他的名為Nimis雕塑的建造工程。Nimis是由浮木和釘子構築而成的迷宮般的建築，1985年的縱火事件使當時重達15噸的木材付之一炬，重建工程後，整個建築群長150米，木材和釘子重達70噸，每年吸引數千名遊客慕名前來。

1991年．拉爾斯.維爾克斯開始著手名為Arx的雕塑的建造，Arx由岩石和水泥構成，狀若“融化”的沙堡，1998年完工。

戲謔之處還不止於此，2002年，3000多名巴基斯坦人誤認為Ladonia是個實際存在的國家，並在互聯網上可免費申請獲得這個北歐國家的公民權。於是，要求移民的申請書蜂擁而至。致使Ladonia“當局”不得不在相關網頁上注明：Ladonia不能提供就業和住房，也不發放簽證。
由於地處偏遠，Nimis1982年才為人所知，同年，瑞典政府部門認定Nimis為自然保護區內違規建造的屋舍，責令其立即拆除。拉爾斯.維爾克斯為了保護這些建築一直與政府抗爭。1986年，藝術家克裏斯托和珍妮.克勞德夫婦購買了Nimis，使之得以留存。
