2021/1/25 蒙特雷大風

風大潮狂沙打麵，青雲高立獨清閑。天觀莫道常千貌，宇宙持恒似泰山。 

Big wind surges up waves and causes sand to beat on my face
However, clouds stand vertically in much leisure
Don't say that the appearance of heaven changes a lot
Like Mount Tai the universe remains same as ever

2021/1/27 夜大風雨

馬徑無人景色迷，沉沉欲墜厚雲低。昨來一陣摧枯雨，滿目蕭條盡亂泥。

下雨騎車

晚雨瀟瀟下不停，低窪小徑滿湯坑。騎車好似行船走，褲腳皆潮履灌盈

5/29/2021 高地行腳

高地昏雲暗，鬆間鷺鳥飛。荒坡孤履客，微汗解行衣。

 Over the Presidio dusk clouds are dark
Through pine trees a heron is startled to dart
On the barren slope is trekking a lone hiker
Slightly sweating, he unties his hiking sweater

悼洛外前輩許淵衝教授

猶聞昔日炮聲洪，課上笑談振聵聾。粵返學兒張大口，洛留戰士歎英功。
文章不少悉心閱， 尺牘零星偶過瞳。獨自神交思譯美， 酌斟取舍啟餘蒙。

#1 許老師當年人稱許大炮。一則講課聲如洪鍾，二則與論敵征戰，如發大炮。

#2一年暑假留校同學到許老師家玩，許子從廣外回家，展示其英文口語甚為流利，乃得廣外交際教學法之益，令我等驚訝。

#3 許老師曾寄我一封信和談三美的文章影印稿。

Recalling Prof Xu Yuanchong

Your booming voice is still heard at my ear
Your enlightening lectures often won student cheer
Your son, back from Canton, spoke fluent English
Me and my classmates his eloquence did astonish
With diligence I have read many articles by you
The one letter you wrote me I occasionally review
Often alone I savor the beauties of translation
Pondering and weighing, I make my decision

枕邊夢裏事頻繁，晨醒皆消尋覓難。仰望天蓬雲霧罩，前程渺渺意冰寒

Dreams at the pillow, a multi-event show
Hard to recall at waking up though
An overcast sky came into view
Blank as the future freezing my heart so

 初春豪雨扣窗扉，如豆一燈夜墨黑。海氣吹來驚陋舍，天濤鞭至打門楣。
皆濕襪履急更褲，全寂空堂懶做炊。臥看京華春夢影，身如槁木意如灰。

 Early spring rains beats hard on windows
The lamp appears weak in dark shadows
Ocean wind shakes my humble abode
The door bears the heavenly rain load
My shoes and socks wet, I quickly change
House empty, I do not food arrange
Watching tele drama on TV
Body lifeless and heart as ashy

On bed I watch A Moment in Beijing on TV
My body a piece of dead wood and my heart as ashy

7/6吃草求乞

盛世鶯歌燕舞，道有食草之族。哭求路人施舍，為救孩兒病苦。舉國已然小康，一病耗資無數。高官自有國養，職工保險聊補。三六九等之民，唯有農人最苦。醫療資源稀缺，無憂保險更無。小病尚可應付，大病天翻地覆。到處天價醫療，醫院高如道蜀。為弄小國外交，獎學揮金如土。外援獅子張口，己民視若無睹。弄來一群渣滓，還要美女陪讀。厲國病的不輕，說來心裏發堵。何似昔日朱門，外有凍死之骨。

8/15去薩利納斯

免費公交薩市行，灰雲籠罩菜田青。遠山霧白紗繚繞，近土肥黑壤嗅馨。

本欲蔬行遠采購，誰知小店近招停。街頭閑椅稍微坐， 打道回程掃院庭。

 魂消占地意如何, 不識環球戶口多。未若清灰隨水去，三途一入忘蹉跎。

What to need land for when your soul is gone?
Not knowing population is wearing the earth down?
Why not let ashes flow away with water
Once into Sanzu nothing you remember

詠中國大媽

奇葩當屬華大媽，攀樹登枝攝桃花。桃花蕊嫩三春色，大媽額老走犁鏵。
絲巾猶如金箍棒，可收可展招驚訝。平庸最忌紮堆秀，俗上加俗算個啥。

注解：此華大媽非彼華大媽

 A wonder in deed is the Chinese dama

Climbing peach trees to be photoed with flowers
Flowers are young with the beauty of spring
Dama’s brow has seen the work of ploughs
Her silk scarf is like the weapon of Monkey King
Hidden or exhibited, it invites lots of vows
The worst thing is the collective show of vulgarity
Piled up, it’s less presentable that a herd of cows

幹家務活，口占一詩不求律：

識女當如某亞木，能騎烈馬能修屋。開弓沒有回頭箭，吟詩直追唐李杜。

耆老關懷不辭累，鋸斧捏拿再現魯。莫道巾幗無柔意，豪情亦看小於菟。

To know a lady, it’s none other than Yamu
Who can ride a horse and fix the roof
The arrow she shoots will never boomerang
Her poems approximate those of Li and Du
Never tired of serving the elderly in care
She operates tools like Mr. Ban Lu
And yet she does not lack a female heart
Time to time at her child she casts a look

三江韻作七絕二首

月隱烏棲霧滿江，秋風葉落小山窗。龜蛇默對朦朧夜，浪子漂遊夢亂邦。

 The moon hidden, the crows at rest, the river in fog
Leaves falling in west wind at the small window in hill knock
In misty night the Snake’nd Turtle face each other in silence
A soul of drifter wanders in chaotic country in dream-walk

滬上紅霞映浦江，高樓大廈百千窗。遊人三兩觀秋景，喚取何人配做雙。

 Huangpu River reflects rosy clouds that glow
Twinkling are the skyscrapers’ many a window
In groups, people appreciate the autumn scene
Whom to summon as my pal to enjoy the show

有感於深圳紅樓夜景

一支紅祖勃雲天，海外歸舟擾夜眠。萬謝千恩誰莫道，說來到底為銅錢。

 A red phallus soars to the sky
Return boat disturbs sleepy night
Many thanks to whom no one knows
After all it’s because money is might

秋高氣爽是平京，碧瓦紅牆係舊情。 物是人非多代謝，追思隻在網中行。

Beijing as usual is having its fine autumn
Scarlet walls and glazed tiles invoke feelings old
Human changes abound in the city same
I seek memories in virtual world cold

長夜難明蒙縣天，枕前覺醒夢難圓，嫦娥宮裏舞翩躚。?鍾表聞聲殘夜刻，星移鬥轉海桑遷，誰人常有麵如仙？

It’s long night here in Monterey,?what dream I had is hard to say,?In the moon palace someone’s dancing away.?Clock is heard ticking the night,?Stars move and everything changes?Who can keep youth like angels?

時針單調擾清眠，夢枕難回夜半天。強數鍾聲催入睡，好邀禪磬到篷船。

The ticking of the clock disturbs my sleep?Back to my dream pillow I can hardly creep?Counting the sounds I force myself to sleep?To invite the Zen bell my company to keep

閉戶全天似隔離，滿園新綠草多姿。郊遊何必行長路，破院留鞋亦覽奇。

Whole day in house I seem to be in quarantine?The verdant new grass makes my yards look fine?No need to go far for an outing and sightseeing?I see wonderful scenery within my yards’ confine

12/10 窗外月

窗外夜似海，海中月似船。茫茫無所係，幽幽熒光寒。

Night is the sea?The moon a boat?That is moored no where?With ghostly light feeling cold

 

12/23 一夜雨，天明未見放晴跡象。

 

淒風苦雨懶車行，宅在空堂待放晴。

遙想途中魂斷客，前村幾處問茶旌。

 

In bitter wind’nd rain a car trip isn’t inviting

I wait in my empty house for the day’s clearing

Those heart-broken ones on strange roads I’m wondering

How many tea house banners they would be seeking

清平樂•聖誕夜

 

黃昏夜暗，前夕耶穌誕。

聖曲悠揚光燭軟，齊頌天王恩滿。

 

華客獨坐諸番，洋節海外結緣，

自幸無人約束，禁來何日能完。

 

It’s a dark evening on Christmas Eve

With holy music and lighted candles

We praise the King of Heaven, his full grace

 

I, a sole Chinese among foreigners

Can celebrate the foreign festival overseas

Lucky am I that none forbids me to do so

I see no end of bans back home
