Today, I took Olivia and Evan to the ophthalmologist for their annual eye exam. Even though the power of Olivia's prescription was pretty low, the ophthalmologist still recommended Ortho-K for her this year considering the prescription for her right eye tripled within a year. Evan still has perfect vision.
After the exam, we went to a pizza restaurant for lunch. Olivia was a little bummed that her prescription got worse while Evan still had perfect vision. After I told her that she should seriously take my advice of not reading while laying on the bed (I found her doing this a couple of times when I asked her to stop reading and go to sleep at night), Daddy commented that unfortunately with both her parents being near-sighted, it was almost inevitable that she and Evan would be near-sighted too, however they should try their best to protect their eye sight.
"Unfortunately that (being doomed to become near-sighted) is the downside of being the child of Mommy and Daddy." Daddy said.
"That's okay because you guys are awesome parents!" Olivia grabbed Daddy's elbow (they were sitting together opposite me and Evan) and leaned her head against his shoulder.
"We are?" I wanted to confirm.
"Yeah!" she had no doubt.
One simple sentence but I was really touched. To me, raising a child right is such a difficult task and a huge responsibility. Being a perfectionist, I always think I have a lot to improve on to be a good mom, so I can't tell you how much what Olivia said today meant to me. Thank you Olivia for your encouragement! J
"The upside is that," Daddy continued, "without Mommy and Daddy, you wouldn't exist."
"You are really lucky if you think about it," he continued. "You were born on the only planet which we know of that supports life. You are the highest life form that lives on this planet. And you were born into the richest and most powerful country at the time. It is pretty amazing, isn't it?"
It is truly amazing when you think about it this way. Olivia nodded her ahead in agreement. Evan wasn't as struck as Olivia, he was probably wondering when Daddy would let him play with his iPod againJ.
