Question about Cursive

This morning we were watching the "Extreme Home Makeover". This episode was about building a new home for a Hawaiian family and a community center they run.

The family of course was in tears when they entered their beautiful new home. They showed a close up of a "Welcome Home" card on the dinning table from Sears who was the sponsor for this episode.

"Look, it's in cursive." Olivia commented.

"Why is it in cursive?" Evan asked.

"To make the writing pretty." Daddy answered.

"To make it pretty? But how do you read them?" Evan asked.
