Today, Olivia went to the funeral for the mom of one of her friends. She passed away this past Sunday after bravely battled with stage IV breast cancer for the past three years.
Olivia was in the same class with her friend in Kindergarten and they were in the same class when they went on to the first grade. Originally we didn't plan to let her go to the funeral but she insisted on going as "(this friend of her) must feel very sad loosing her mom and I want to go to show my support for her. But I do want to stay away from the casket."
Her little friend looked okay and was not very emotional during the ceremony. Maybe the sad fact has not sunk in or maybe she has somewhat prepared for it after been through the tough times with her mother for the past three years. She was, however, happy to see some of her old friends including Olivia at the funeral.
Olivia didn't know the mom very well but she cried just like most of the people in the room when the little girl's uncle addressed her and her 4 year-old sister at the end of his speech that "I want you to know that your mom loves you, she loves you, she loves you."
The first thing Olivia did after we came back from the funeral was to get on line and check out the website of Gal to Gal Foundation (her friend's mom was the president) which supports women who are diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer.
