\'Can We Still Be a Family?\'

Maybe "traumatized" by the death of their dear pet Teddy the hamster this past weekend (which I will be writing), Evan who is only five and a half kept on telling me the past two nights before the bed that he does not want to die.

"Why are you worrying about dying? You are only five years old, you are like a baby, and you have so many years ahead of you." I was surprised that he brought up this topic.

"Because I don't want to be a ghost. You turn into a ghost after you die and you go through stuff when you turn into a ghost" Evan said.

"No, you are not going to turn into a ghost. Plus isn't it cool if you can go through stuff?" Somehow being invisible is always intriguing to me J.

"No! It's not cool because you can not do anything. You can not even drink the water, you hand will just pass through the cup!" he was trying to express his concern.

Hmm…good point, I never thought about that but then I guess we don't need to drink the water after we die anyways.

"Well, you are not going to turn into a ghost after you die. You can go to heaven if you are good." I told him.

"What is heaven?" he was curious.

"Well, heaven is somewhere good people go after they die." I explained to him.

"If I am in heaven, can we still be a family?" he asked.

Oh, that's sweet! He even thinks about us after he dies J.

"You mean you still want to be with mommy, daddy and Olivia after you go to heaven?"

"Yes." He was pretty sure.

"Well, I think so. By the time you are in heaven, I don't know about Olivia but mom and dad mostly likely are already there, so yeah, we can still be a family."

Evan was satisfied with my answer. He forgot about the ghost and went to the bed. Well, no matter what, I just hope he doesn't think about death that much at such a tender age.
