A Fun Afternoon at Beijing Zoo

When I told Evan we were going to have a date to Beijing zoo, he was so excited that he exclaimed "Yeah!"  I told him that if he wanted to go, he had to walk by himself as I would not carry him. He nodded his head immediately and really stuck to his word. He was on his feet four hours straight without complaining at all.

As bonus, Evan got to eat his favorite food pizza at a Pizza Hut next to the zoo before we went in. The service there was very good even after Evan spilled a glass of water by accident. Our waiter asked Evan a couple of times:"寶貝, pizza 好吃嗎? (Little buddy, is the pizza good?)" Evan just stared him with his blank eyes and only nodded his head upon my prompt. I think it was so cute when a young Chinese guy calls Evan a "寶貝":).

Evan first went to see panda bear and took a picture with a giant sleeping panda as a background holding a picture of Stanley. By doing this he finished the job his cousin Will gave to him. Will had a school project to show where his Stanley had been and of course it would be so cool if his Stanley had been to China.

We then went to one of Evan's favorite places in the zoo- the Monkey Mountain. Unfortunately due to the cold weather, not as many monkeys were out that day as we went there last time. We didn't see polar bear either, but we saw the huge black and brown bears, lions, tigers (they are so beautiful :)), elephants, rhinos, zebras…and many many more.

Evan really enjoyed feeding the giraffes. We were lucky enough to see a family of them and the mom was chasing the baby. Seeing tall giraffes running around with their long skinny legs is really something. The dad was very calm, he was content eating all the leaves stuck into the fence by the tourists. His big tough twisted around and even if you were only able to stick the leaf into the fence just a little bit, he could somehow pull it into his mouth.  Evan was fascinated by it, he was picking up leaves all over the place and asked me to hold him up to feed the giraffes. So the mom exercised her upper arm strength for quite a while :).

We then spent a lot of time in Aquarium. We watched the sea lion performing which was very funny and the dolphin show was spectacular, better than the few ones we had seen here in the States. We saw many different kinds of fishes with all sorts of colors and sharks and sting rays swimming on top of our heads when we took the escalator down. Evan also really enjoyed feeding some of the fishes as well.

Finally, right before we headed out, Evan insisted on riding one of those little electronic cars decorated as stuffed animals which you can actually control where it goes. He picked the panda bear one and just loved riding it with smiles all over his face.
