Big Progress in Swimming

Have been lazy, this entry was supposed to be done last weekend.

I was watching both Olivia and Evan taking their swimming classes by the pool. Evan was doing better than usual. The teacher was a little surprised so she kept on saying: “Good job! Evan!” and patted his head. Although Evan is more cautious now compared to when he was two and half (he would jump to the pool whenever he got a chance), he has always been happy in the water. The praise from the teacher made him even happier and he was smiling from ear to ear. 

Olivia has been making slow progress in swimming over the years (we do not take kids swimming as often as we should). She has been very cautious and only started to let her face get wet since last session early this year. 

Normally Olivia’s class is in a different pool next door from Evan’s. I don’t get to see her class as much as Evan always wants me to stay with his class. But last weekend, they happened to share the same pool and boy, didn’t Olivia surprise me! She was lying totally flat on the water which I never knew she would do, she used a surf board to practice the arm and leg movement of the free style which looked pretty professional to me, she also swam across the pool several times looking like someone I don’t know.  

I asked myself, is that my daughter?  

Apparently the teacher was wondering about the same thing and asked me: “Has Olivia been practicing?” 

“No,” I answered. 

“Well, something happened. She totally got it today.” She then turned to Olivia and said: “Olivia, I will see whether you can do all these next week. If you can I am afraid I have to move you up to the next class. I hate to let my girl go though”. 

I was very happy about the progress she made so I said to Olivia: “Wow, isn’t it great you can move up to the next class?” 

“No,” she said. “I like my teacher a lot. She said she hated to let her girl go, so I want to stay with her.” 

Oh well, she will get over it.
