Logistics Warfare

Live from Ukraine ????????
Mykolaivka When we approached, the rubble was still smoking, and several fires raged in the remains of businesses and houses along the main road. Among the ruins, we saw a man kneeling with his head in his hands. He was unmoving, despite thick, hazy clouds making the air unbreathable and sudden explosions forcing us to drop to the ground. As we moved to rescue him, we realized his wife had just been rushed away after the explosion of a Russian Geran drone tore off her right arm and leg. The only ambulance that arrived was already full of other injured people, so he had to stay there. In front of us were the remains of the shop where the woman worked. A little further on were the remains of their home, the cage where their two dogs had been trapped in flames, and nearby, the wreckage of their burning car. That mans small family business produced honey, and some beehives still remain there. These are civilian targets that the Russians blindly attack every day to disrupt Ukrainian logistics toward Donbas.
The Russians had just carpet-bombed Mykolaivka for the second time in two days, so much so that just before halting our journey again, we stopped in front of the rubble of a farmhouse along the main road from Pavlohrad to Pokrovsk.

The Russian Armed Forces are striking with unprecedented ferocity at all the Ukrainian villages along the supply routesto that city because the frustration and losses are such that they are striking deadly blows against everything. The logistical and organizational innovations promoted by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Army, Oleksandr Syrsky, are increasingly making their lives very difficult in that sector. Not advancing but having already declared its conquest, the Russians are unsuccessfully attempting to disrupt logistics to Pokrovsk. Ukrainian men, vehicles, and equipment continue to rush along the primary and secondary arteries.
Learning from past mistakes, under Syrskys leadership, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have restored and reconfigured supply routes to ensure supplies even under extremely difficult conditions. At the same time, they have launched active interdiction operations against Russian supply lines to Pokrovsk, leaving mined roads, using drones, and carrying out targeted attacks on enemy vehicles and logistics.
Russian forces are facing severe issues maintaining these supply lines, to the point that they are forced to move on foot in small groups of five or even just two men, because heavy vehicles cannot advance.
Likewise, they are unable to evacuate the wounded, consolidate their positions, and bring new groups of soldiers to Pokrovsk alive. If the Russian advance is suffering such setbacks that it is preventing the achievement of an objective declared not two days ago, but two years ago, it is thanks to the incredible valor of the Ukrainian armed forces. Without going into too much detail so as not to provide useful information to the enemy, one of Syrskyjs great achievements was to quickly implement innovations that guaranteed the rotation and resupply of Ukrainian troops, while simultaneously degrading Russias mechanized capabilities and ambitions for conquest.

Despite carpet-bombing Ukrainian villages behind Pokrovsk, the Russians are unable to disrupt Ukrainian logistics or secure their own. This meansthey are unable to consolidate positions or sustain long sieges. This type oflogistical warfare less visible than a frontal assault but, in many cases, more lethal for the occupying forces can slowly erode an adversarys potential without necessarily having to fight every inch of ground in direct combat. The maneuvers deployed by Syrskyj are not just temporary tactics; they showUkraines increasing ability to manage modern warfare through logistics, resilience, and counter-logistics, conserving manpower and ammunition against an enemy that relies on field superiority rooted on outdated Soviet military doctrines.

This is a crucial aspect that perhaps only those here can grasp. The vast majority of analyses conducted remotely completely overlook these factors. One of the earliest reforms introduced by the Zelensky government was focused on renovating the road network. Sometimes even criticized by those who dont experience the realities of war firsthand, this measure saved Ukraine from collapse.
Faced with widespread Russian attacks on railway infrastructure, he enabled troops and equipment to cross the country in less than half the time compared to before. Thisextensive network of nearly endless routes, easily navigable and even defensible, enabled Syrskyj to implement a modern military doctrine grounded in a thorough understanding of the enemys forces. This madesupplies, mobility, and countermeasures not just support elements but a true strategic weapon.
