Live from Ukraine?

Ridkivtsi — Russian dictator Vladimir Putin continues to drown in blood, what are now derisively called in Ukraine the?“peace efforts” — alluding to the vomiting efforts?— of US President Donald Trump, rendering futile any attempt to diplomatically end the war he unleashed.
Last night, the Russian air force launched?a barrage of high-explosive drones on Dnipro, targeting the local fire station, which resulted in the death of a 46-year-old rescue worker and left the oldest team member on duty near death.
Then it struck?Zaporizhzhia?again, killing a one-year-old child not far from where he had completed another training session just a week earlier, with civilians waiting for a bus at the city's busiest stop. Using another incendiary drone, it hit the private postal center of Nova Poshta in?Kramatorsk, killing a 49-year-old man and seriously injuring a 13-year-old girl.
South of that town, it then targeted another, overwhelming?Kostiantynivkawith a series of high-tonnage glide bombs, reducing the local school, a building, and several houses to rubble, including the one from which Alla Perdei and I filmed our latest documentary from those devastated areas for this newspaper.
All this while, the cities of Kyiv and Sumy observed a day of mourning to remember the victims of?another massacre carried out by the Russians less than 24 hours earlier, in which 23 people are known to have died and 53 were injured, but the fate of eight others remains unknown.

The Nova Poshta hub destroyed by russians in Kramatorsk

Although Zelensky and his delegates keep emphasizing that Putin’s Russia only understands the language of force, urging the adoption of sanctions that would severely harm its war economy and applying strong pressure on diplomatic and military fronts,?there is a feeling in these regions that no one is truly willing to commit to binding and effective security guarantees.
The military at the front are well aware of this — openly encouraging journalists to write that Ukraine will continue on its own, vigorously rejecting?empty calls for tact, which, in the common opinion, only serve to flatter negotiations between two Russian assets like Putin and Trump?— and they have also understood it in those offices that make the art of diplomacy their best talent.

?Just as 86 years ago, when the so-called Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was signed, Moscow aims to divide Europe again. As it later turned out, that agreement was the formalization of another between Hitler and Stalin for the division of Eastern Europe,? reads a statement issued by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, which recalled that event as the spark that ignited World War II. ?Today, the lessons of the past are more relevant than ever. Just as 86 years ago, Moscow’s primary goal is the division of spheres of influence and the forced redrawing of borders in Europe. Just as then, any indulgence in such plans or the signing of secret agreements with Moscow can only lead to a global catastrophe,? the statement reads.

The allusion clearly references not only the Kremlin’s first tenant but also the White House’s, showing how Ukraine is united on this issue, from the front lines to the highest levels of government. As German Chancellor Friedrich Merz noted,?the war launched by Russia in Ukraine could continue for many more months.

On the day Ukraine honors its fallen defenders in defense of the free world, Ukrainian military and diplomats are urging the Willings to treat it as such, intensifying their economic and military efforts even more than their diplomatic ones, and sending Putin a clear message in the only language he understands.

Giorgio Provinciali?

Nova Poshta?

Alla Perdei?
