This was a great movie . I wonder why most of the end of 90s and begging of 2000 movies ( the great ones) had shed lights on narcissism and psychopaths and their ability to control empaths, and since in 2020 and up a lot are talking about narcissism. So this means that this issue is an ongoing social illness spreading in society.
If you focus what type of relationship each the narcissist ( Tom Copano) has with his mother and how his mother treated him, he was raised as a golden child, and the other two brothers were the neglected ones, so this is how narcissist is raised.
And from the other side the empath ( Annmarie) her relationship with her father after her mother’s death shaped her personality to be a perfect victim for Tom.
This dynamic between narcissist and the empath no one can see it only the one who crosses to the other side of the river.“
haha, Wrong question. Why not ?
**The “Dark Triad”** refers to three personality traits that share a common core of **coldness, manipulation, and a lack of empathy**. They aren’t clinical diagnoses, but psychological constructs used to understand certain socially harmful or exploitative behaviors.
### **1. Narcissism**
A pattern of grandiosity, entitlement, superiority, and a constant need for admiration.
* *“I deserve more than others.”*
* Often charming at first, but fragile underneath.
### **2. Machiavellianism**
A strategic, calculating mindset focused on manipulation and self-interest.
* Emotionally detached, pragmatic, willing to bend rules.
* *“The ends justify the means.”*
### **3. Psychopathy**
Low empathy, impulsivity, thrill-seeking, and a shallow emotional life.
* Can be calm under pressure, but also reckless.
* *“I feel nothing, so consequences don’t matter.”*

### **The Common Thread**
People high in these traits often:
* use others as tools,
* show little remorse,
* prioritize personal gain,
* display charm without warmth.
In everyday life, most people show these traits only mildly. True “high-Dark-Triad” personalities are rare—but unforgettable when encountered.
