The Creating Brain

By Daniel Pink:
Every idea you’ve had has probably been done before.
So how do you create something truly original?

Here are 3 ways to think differently..

1. Consume differently.
If you only read, watch, and listen to what everyone else does…
You’ll think just like everyone else.
Seek out unconventional ideas.
Obscure books.
Perspectives outside your field.

2. Make space to think.
If your mind is always flooded with noise, it never has time to process.
Dr. Nancy Andreasen, author of The Creative Brain, says:
Creativity thrives during free-floating thought.
Einstein did it. So can you.
Take a walk. Sit in silence. Let your mind wander.

3. Live first, create later.
Your best ideas don’t come from staring at a screen.
They come from experience.
Say yes more.
Do things that scare you.
Give yourself stories worth telling.

The key to originality isn’t chasing it.
It’s living in ways that give your mind raw material.
That’s how you create something new.
