『道德經 第六章』（穀神不死）

 第六章

 

【原文】

穀神不死①，是謂玄牝（pìn）②。玄牝之門，是謂天地根③。綿綿若存④，用之不勤⑤。

 

【注釋】　　

①穀：形容虛空。神：形容不測的變化。

②玄牝(pìn)：象征深遠而看不見的生育萬物的總根源，這裏用以形容“道”的不可思議的生殖力。牝，生殖。

③是謂：這叫作。

④綿綿：冥冥無形象，連續不斷的樣子。

⑤不勤：不勞倦，不窮竭。勤，盡。

 

【譯文】

虛空不定的變化是永不停歇的，這就是生育萬物的神秘莫測的總根源。微妙的生母之門，就是天地生成的根源。它綿綿不絕地存在著，作用無窮無盡。

 

English Translation

The unfathomable God is immortal.
This gave birth to all mysteries.
From the gate of this motherly being come Heaven and earth.
Everlasting and dwelling in mystery,
She is what she seems not.
She gives and is not exhausted.
