The procedure for United Air to serve its main meal on long international flights normally are: (1) announce the main mealchoices, (2) serve drink once, (3) serve drink the second time, (4) the main meal (normally insufficient for regular passengers), (5) possibly one small ice cream. See the reason for serving two drinks before the main meal?
On a recent flight back to US from China, the choices were first announced in both English and Chinese as (1) chicken and rice, (2) noodles with meat balls. The Chinese announcement, as usual, was very poor to hear clearly even though it was spoken by a Chinese flight attendant. Strangely, all food serving flight attendants on this flight were male Americans. In the first round serving choices of drink, one person yelled to the flight attendant "chicken!" Apparently he pre-determined his choice but did not understand the flight attendant's question.
"The chicken is not even slaughtered yet!" Answered the flight attendant. However, his humor was not well received.
