How does leaving your job help with menopause symptoms? And these are easily remedied with bio-identical hormone replacement therapy covered by most health insurance. It’s a health issue, not a “work issue”.

Hope-Leen'da Chambliss, Stacy Lynn. Yes I understand the problem and how it interferes with work (as well as personal relations) and can be used as a reason to discriminate. My point is that it is in fact easily and safely treated with bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (HRT), such as that available from BioTe. The only real issue is that some health insurance plans will not cover it because menopause is natural, not an illness. (Same as pregnancy, but they cover that.)

My wife is a Family Physician and Professor of Medicine who has specialized in this treatment for about 12 years (prompted by her own menopause) and now teaches it to other physicians. I have helped prepare and attended many lectures on the topic.

HRT got a bad reputation due to the irresponsible early use of conjugated horse estrogens, which were even at the time known to be carcinogenic in hamsters, later shown to be in humans. Most physicians are still not aware that bio-identical human estrogen and natural levels of testosterone harmlessly relieve the symptoms. HRT is vastly underutilized but extremely effective when tailored to individual needs by a competent physician.

As a prostate cancer patient getting hormone shots and cancer medication I can relate somewhat to what women go through. I have what my nurses called “Manopause”. I want to eat all the time and when my wife is cold I am hot. When she is hot I am cold. She gives me heck all the time. She thinks it’s funny and it is. But what women go through is much worse and I understand why it would effect their career.

Flight Following/Charter Supervisor at Alpine Air Express

I have an update...I went to a different hormone clinic and the bloodwork they discussed with me and then compared the previous clinic's result were so near the same. What is noteworthy is that I have thyroid issues, inflamed liver and possible SIBO/leaky gut that they didn't review with me.
I am now on a regimen to reduce the inflammation and special diet to repair my gut. Once those are squared, my thyroid will likely follow suit and THEN we can begin hormone treatment.
Another thing the previous clinic did was give me wayyyy too much estrogen and a small amount of testosterone with no estrogen blocker. So - my estrogen has gone off the deep end and has made me an angry chubby girl.
Moral of the story: always listen to your intuition and follow through.

Let's remember that many women experience perimenopausal symptoms in their 30s, often without realizing it might be menopause. It's important to talk to our daughters and sons about this so they can take care of themselves and their loved ones.
