Watch Closer Now: http://AAN.SonyPictures.com/Closer
A witty, romantic, and very dangerous love story about chance meetings, instant attractions, and casual betrayals. CLOSER is director Mike Nichols' critically acclaimed look at four strangers - Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Natalie Portman and Clive Owen - with one thing in common: each other. Adapted by Patrick Marber from his award-winning stage play, CLOSER "VIBRATES WITH EROTICISM, BRUISING LAUGHS, AND DYNAMIC PERFORMANCES. CLOSER IS A TRIUMPH!" - Peter Travers, ROLLING STONE

The trio “Soave sia il vento” from Cosi fan Tutti is the background music. Irony: it means ‘may the winds be gentle’

Background music from 'Closer' match perfectly with the story-line. Moreover, "Cossi fan Tutti ~ in Italian means "Things that everybody does".

I don't like watching infidelity movies, but that one scene was so POWERFUL, that it showed me self RESPECT and dignity.

Alice
Larry is vile. Alice acted to cover up her sweet and vulnerable self as she recognized vileness from miles away in that guy.

He's not vile - he's just honest - which many people mistake for vulgarity. What's vile are the false pretenses we put up - which is what the whole movie is about.

Alice is hardly an angel. Her whole life in London was a facade, her name isn't even Alice. Which allows her to disappear at the end of the movie knowing that Dan - (as well as all the rest of them) - will never be able to find her. Suggesting that the very reason she was in London to begin with was that she was on the run from a similar situation somewhere else. Which at the very least is a toxic pattern, pathological to at least some extent.
And Alice doesn't cry because of anything Larry did or said in this scene, she cries because she realises her man hasn't gotten over Anna.
***
Even if Alice did sleep with Larry, she didn't cheat on Dan because he broke up with her to be with Anna. As for Jane Jones/Alice Ayres using a fake name, I think she did that because she was moved by the memorial stone that told how Alice Ayres died rescuing 3 children from a fire - an act of bravery/courage that maybe Jane Jones was hoping she could aspire too? At the end of the day, lying about her name was squat compared to the betrayal that Dan committed against her. A really sad movie about how relationships can cut you to the core.
I don’t think Larry really slept with Alice. I think she lied to hurt Dan and get him to leave. He didn’t believe her and only cared about if Larry “got” her. She said that Larry asked nicely and really he was crude and aggressive (not nice).

love isn’t real. Alice is the only one who understands this.

The movie pretends to be smart and complex, but it's just stupid, insufferable and unrealistic. It was about 4 selfish narcissists with absolutely no values or principles, who just want to fxck, lie and betray. Completely unrealistic in real life. The ending was stupid too
The caveman, "Larry" of impulse-driven
i just finished watching closer and your video couldnt have worded my train of thoughts any better! this was so perfectly executed and worded. the phrase "when theyre not with the one they love, they love the one theyre with" couldnt have been more suitable!!! i am in awe

Wait a second….you think Larry slept with Alice in New York? You think when he says to Anna that he saw her postcard in the Hotel and later tells her he slept with a prostitute ….he was talking about Alice? It never occurred to me that’s what happened, mostly because Alice is in London, not NYC during this time. I also always believed that Alice never slept with Larry …she just told Dan she had because the truth just didn’t matter anymore. She’d ‘decided’not love Dan anymore.
Yeah that's not strength but nice passive aggressive take--Sorry but you’re wrong Larry and Anna end up together happy because they love each other nice try though good video but they are very much in love it takes a strong couple to stay together after affair, and keep loving each other

When you love someone you don’t cheat. Cheating is a whole process that takes time and planning, it’s no accident. And that alone is an act of hate, disrespect and selfishness that leaves no room for love.

In London, the American new arrival and former striper Alice Ayres (Natalie Portman) meets the mediocre obituary journalist Daniel (Jude Law) and they move together. Dan writes a book, inspired by the life of Alice, and while photographing for the release of the book, he meets the American photographer Anna (Julia Roberts). Dan "introduces" the dermatologist Larry (Clive Owen) to Anna, and they get married. However, Dan and Anna have a passionate affair, complicating the relationship of the couples.
