I love this movie in so many ways. Not only is it the most beautiful film I've ever seen, the story is completely moving. This movie literally changed my life-- I changed the way I make my choices after seeing this. It struck something inside my mind that I don't know how to describe other than as an awakening of sorts. I think that's the point of the film, too. I felt like its about making choices to be happy, rather than to always do what's considered to be right. I love this film.
The Italian film you are referring to is "I Am Love" (Italian: "Io sono l'amore"). The character Emma, played by Tilda Swinton, is a Russian-born woman who is married into a wealthy Italian family. Antonio is a chef with whom she has an affair.

Emma (Tilda Swinton) is seduced by the elegant cuisine of her son's best friend Antonio (Edoardo Gabbriellini) in Luca Guadagnino's brilliant film of love at any cost. That's Marisa Berenson in blue.
I adore Tilda, I met her in Paris at the Viktor and Rolf exhibit opening; she's the most gracious and personable "celebrity" I've ever met. She made me feel like I was the only person in the room when we were talking. Her success couldn't have happened to a better person.
It's a perfect scene set up by the comment from the youngest at the table, "Too much enthusiasm can cause one not to think straight." which Tilda's character immediately argues against. And it is a true comment, enthusiasm is a feeling. And if you let yourself go into feeling, you may not be thinking but that can be a good thing but you are still intelligent. Savouring life, for food gives us life, but on its own savouring life is an act of love, self-love. All else fades away as Emma loses herself in this love. It's just a moment in a span of a lifetime but it is these moments that sustain us.
my notes: When you taste obssessed with food in physical pleasure - mouth tongue pawn and love-desire, you lost your soul. There's nothing beautiful but being selfish.
"Mmmm... my tastebuds just went to Heaven with a side-trip to Paradise"
Lunch so good you want the chef's meat for dinner.
This movie launched the three-starred Michelin italian chef Carlo Cracco. All dishes were made by him.

Tilda's character immediately argues against this, highlighting that while enthusiasm is a feeling, it doesn't negate intelligence. In fact, allowing yourself to fully embrace feelings can be beneficial. Savoring life, particularly through food, is an act of self-love.
