"Sexism leads women to devalue parenting work while inflating the value of jobs and careers."
--Bell Hooks
In this aspect, I am a sexist too. this really deserves good contemplation. we were taught to believe that Anything else is inferior yet only chasing an academic life is superior. there will be a golden house and there will be a pretty girl in books. well, i am seriously doubting this notion. a false assumption that had been misleading numerous generations of Chinese intellectuals. Dad would allow me not to do any housework but read whatever books i could find. probably, that's why i now end up being a doctoral. there is always pros and cons, but feels a lack in my life. perhaps a lack of anxiety of many options. there is only one path in front of my childhood and adolescence.
parenting job is a great work that is irreplaceable. it is real and significant. at least, you are influencing one life. sometimes i suspect whoever read those rational and well-versed academic essays and do they ever have any impact on anyone? why would we intend to honor those who dedicate more to career than to domestic life? what is the mentality?
