　　洪七公原為富貴人家的公子，但他生性豪放喜接交朋友，尤其是和丐幫中人混的很熟。輾轉間與丐幫淨衣派長老之女程雪芯相戀，並且卷入丐幫內淨衣、汙衣兩 派的鬥爭中，最後學會降龍十八掌和打狗棒法接任丐幫幫主。
　　段智興隨母在靈鷲宮中長大，成年後奉母命前往大理找生父段王爺，但受到王爺之弟從中作梗，母為救父親死去。段智興一直不原諒父親隻到後來被父親以死相 救，父子間冰釋前嫌，段智興登上王位。
　　洪七公與段智興很早就接識並成為好友，雖然被人挑撥後來為《武穆遺書》而反目，最後仍能攜手戰勝金國靈智上人。
　　洪七公生命中的兩個女人生前都恨不能讓洪七公早點死。段王爺身邊的女子則都為他或死或是遭受不幸。他們年輕時的恩怨情仇同樣感人……
