世故

有幾個道理得銘刻在心。

心裏想的不要說，

不宜之事不要做。

為人可以平易，不要庸俗。

已有的朋友，友誼經考驗，

就要用鋼絲緊扣在心；

不要為結交幾個初孵

羽毛未豐的小子而世故。

小心與人紛爭；

有了紛爭要善於處理，讓敵人有所防備。

木訥近仁，集思廣益；

話需多聽，卻要少說。

袋裏有錢，服飾不妨華貴，

但不可怪異，可以豪華，不可俗氣，

因為穿的與性格每是表裏；

在法國，身份，地位最高的，這方麵最突出。

金錢不可借出或借入；

借貸每是損失，也失交道，

借錢令劍之刃失其鋒利。首要的；對一己要真心，

如能此，仿如夜之繼日，絕不會對他人不忠信。

Look thou character.Give thy thoughts no tongue,

Nor any unproportioned thought his act.

Be thou familiar,but by no means vulgar.

Thous friends thou hast ,and their adoption tried,

Grapple them unto soul with hopes of steel,

But do not dull thy palm with enter tainment

Of each new-hatched,unfledged courage.Beware

Of entrance to a quarrel;but being in,

Bear't that th'opposed may beware of thee.

Give every man thine ear,but few thy voice;

Take each man's censure,but reserve thy judgment.

Costly thy habit as thy purse can buy,

But not expressed in fancy;rich,no gaudy,

For the apparel oft proclaims the man,

And they in France of the best rank and station

Are of a most select and generous chief in that.

Neither a borrower nor a lender be,

For loan oft loses both itself and friend,

And borrowing dulleth edge of husbandry,

This above all,to thine own self be true,

And it must follow as the night the day

Thou canst not then false to any man.
