A clause is basically something added to the policy. Such as the ability to convert the term policy to a whole life without medical examination. There could be many clauses, but this is most important to have.

Suppose the insured get a bad disease, you cann't buy insurance anymore. But with this clause, you can convert the term to whole life, and with pricing of the original health condition, which would be excellent.

Another good example of clauses is the possibility to get half of the face value if a doctor concludes that the insured would die within 12 months, which will give the insured a chance to use/enjoy part of the money.

Hope this helps.
