1. (n.) the solid surface of the earth. I fall to the ground.
2. In Baseball, players hit a ground ball.
3. In grocery store, we can find ground beef and ground coffee.
4. Parents ground their children for children did something wrong.
"You are grounded" is a fairly common punishment for kids' bad behaves. It refers to being unable to leave the house except to go to school or family activities. No parties, no hang out with friends and no phone calls etc.
