Transfer to Rainforest
After two and half years retained inside SMC(Skilled Medical Center), I was transferred to general care campus finally. To make me even more excited, on the morning I packed my belongs, a CNA told me I was going to Rainforest, the newest and best building on the campus. Because the spacious living space, nice environment and internet access,  it costs $150 more per day than the small old buildings. I was required to pay the same price as a result of my burgon in the past few days, which was much cheaper than inside SMC.

With the help of my CNA, it took a whole afternoon to pack all my stuff. By the time my new stuff Seraph took me to Rainforest building, I was exhausted, and my terrible nerves pain was worse and did not give me one second to enjoy my new room.  However, I could not wait for the pain to settle down to walk around to the new building -- a gorgeous one floor building, right inside the door on one side of  the hallway was a big shelf and huge liquid crystal TV, on the other side was the nurse station; inside was the kitchen. On both sides of the central hallway were 12 one- patient's rooms, and the full capacity was 12 patients. If I had not moved in, I would never believe that such a big building only holds 12 patients and a kitchen. My room was lager than the one inside SMC which was shared by 2 patients, with spacious bathroom and closet furnished with 3 rows of draws and a hunger and big shelf. TV was also best I had seen in the 3 rehabilitation facilities I had been.

Because my bad record, a stuff was assigned to be within 3 feet from me 24 hours per day and 7 days a week. We are not allowed to go to bed and get up whenever I like to any more. Every morning we are waken up at 7'ok to eat breakfast, then go to activity center, playing games with stuff or other patients until therapy time. In the afternoon we are allowed to go out for a walk on the campus. Several of the stuff knew what I did a year ago in Pine tree cabin, and were nervous at beginning, following me very closely. I really did not like to be followed by a stuff so close and all the time, and tried to get rid of them and failed. I guess Dr.V would not run the risk to loose me, one reason was for my safty, the other reason was, if I died any time before I was discharged from the rehab center, they would not be able to get any payment from me, which was about 2 million already.

Running rehabilitation facility or hospital must be good-profit business, from what I saw in Rainforest. The building cost about 3 million to construct, was furnished with a kitchen, two cooks, several stuff, one house keeper, sharing a nurse with other building, only held 12 people at most. It still brought benefit to the owner. I believe this building is the lowest benefit building on the campus based on the cost to run it. At the lowest economy period, accidents do not reduce, and patients still had to get treatment from hospitals and rehab centers. The economic crisis never hurt the benefits of in the medical fields.

My Neighbors
A few days later, I met several patients whom I met in gym one year earlier. The one I was most familiar with was KW, a boy between 25 to 30 years old, a motorcycle accident victim. I still remembered his miserable health situation a year ago when he came to the facility, what he indicated most frequently was pain, pain everywhere, and so bad pain. He pointed the letter board to tell therapist and his friends he was not afraid and he was going to fight.  A few months after therapy, he was able to make some hand languages, like great, good etc.. and he smiled sometime.  His situations  vibrated from time to time, once in a while he was so energitic, then he became so weak, could not seat straight.in the following weeks.

He had a very pretty and elegant girlfriend and very good friend. I was so sad to know that his recovery was so slow, and after one and half years therapy, he was still not able to talk, could only slightly move his hands and arms, could not walk at all, and he still used feeding tube. When he came back from therapy or activity center, he went back to bed and stayed in bed all the time. He did not smile at people that much, was very easy to get angry, did not like to help himself. In activity center, he liked the connect 4 game, and always played the game, he could not talk and had to communicate with hand conjustures. Most times his stuff could not see his hand language or did not like to pay enough attention to him, he was so sad and angry that his face turned to red. The happy time KW had was when his girlfriend Megan or his friend Juston visited him, and he laughted much more then.

When she visited, Megan came to Rainforest in the morning with her dog , spent all the day with KW, and left at night to live in a nearby hotel. She was very nice to KW, also very nice to everybody. At beginning, some stuff doubted that  they were going to get married because it was likely that KW would not be able to walk or talk any more, marrying him meant much more than a normal person could carry on. Now it seemed there was no need to worry for KW. Maybe KW was also a nice friendly person before accident, and the slow recovery and terrible pain cast a shadow on his heart, his confidence  after a long and unproductive therapy. How much confidence and courage is needed to be live a happy life after such bad injury?

Andrew was my another neighber, a high school student, about 6 feet 5, skinny and tall, like a light pole. His family was in Portorico, and he was recruited to a high school in USA which trains basketball player for NBA, was already offered a full-scholarship by a university before his car accident.  He had bright sunny smile, friendly to everybody, and also because he was still a teenage, everybody liked him. He came to the facility about half a year ago, was unable to straight his legs and arms, and screamed and pushed the therapists' hand away when they stretched his limes. He was so funny that I bursted into laugh when he had to count 10 with crying face and voice to be released from therapy. He recovered so fast that soon he started to move his legs and arms, and then started to walk and use the arm exercise machine. He sang happy songs to therapists while he was rotating motorcycle, with funny expression on his face.
