The Fog Day
By Huilan
The big fog comes from
The deepening shades of dusk
It comes from the Mississippi river
Where the wilderness ends
The smog snatches the woods from the sunlight
The cold darkness
Releases my mood and flows away
But I can only see my hometown
In my memory
I cannot go to the top of the mountain
Even in my dreams
I miss you so much
But the road is distant
And it’s locked by the smog
I don’t know how many mountains and rivers
Still are in front of me
Or how many borders of states and countries
I need to cross
The American dollar always
Opposes my idle sentiment
No matter how fast the car
It’s not quicker than my spirit that flies from
The nest of my heart
As the dusk draws close
I cannot hold back the tears
Tonight
When the zither sound is near
Where my heart would roost
