At the Cookie Castle, Marty, Jim, and Dan are trying to increase their production of almond puffs, triple-chocolate squares, and lemon mounds. In the first hour, Marty makes 12 puffs, Jim makes 11 squares, and Dan makes 7 mounds. In the second hour they make 13 puffs, 22 sqsuares, and 8 mounds. During the third hour they turn out 15 puffs, 12 squares and 11 mounds. The fourth hour they make 18 puffs, 24 squares and 16 mounds. The fifth hour they make 22 puffs, 14 squares, and 23 mounds. If they continued at these rates, how many hours would it take before they could make a combined total of more than 15 dozen cookies in one hour?
(10 hours)
Solution:
15 dozen=15*12=180
Hour | almond puffs | triple-chocolate | lemon mounds | total |
1 | 12 | 11 | 7 | <180 |
2 | 13 | 22 | 8 | <180 |
3 | 15 | 12 | 11 | <180 |
4 | 18 | 24 | 16 | <180 |
5 | 22 | 14 | 23 | <180 |
6 | 27 | 28 | 32 | <180 |
7 | 33 | 18 | 43 | <180 |
8 | 40 | 36 | 56 | <180 |
9 | 48 | 26 | 71 | <180 |
10 | 57 | 52 | 88 | >180 |
It takes 10 hours before they could make a combined total of more than 15 dozen cookies in one hour.
