Chapter 2
Suddenly out of nowhere a voice said, “What are you leaning on?” My eyes focused and I realized Sally was talking to me. I didn’t really hear what she said “Uh… pardon me?” She asked me the same question again. (This Time I listened.) Only then did I realize I was leaning against the rusty old thing. “I don’t know either,” was my answer. Even I was curious about the rusty thing.
Then I thought how we would get back home. I remembered touching the thing and my family and I disappeared. I quickly realized that if I touched it with 2 fingers again, my family and I would be at home sweet home. So I touched it, but nothing happened. I kept on touching it. When I reached the maximum height of frustration, I was screaming.
Sally looked at me, and then she looked at dad. “Is she okay?” My dad said, “Yeah, well I guess so.” Sally said, “It is okay. The hospital is near. We can get her there in time. Just let me get the phone─” “NO!” yelled dad. Obviously Sally thought I had gone mad. Then dad said, “It is okay. I know Steph doesn’t need to go to the hospital. Oh, and speaking of the Steph, let’s just introduce ourselves shall we?” Dad was speaking very nervously. He was definitely trying to change the subject which I really appreciated. While dad was busy babbling, mom and grandma came over. They tried to comfort me and asked me what was wrong. As I wiped my last tears I said, “There’s no hope in going home.” Then I started crying all over again because Elizabeth and Angela started crying. I cried with them. I just knew. Then Steve started crying too. So when dad introduced us, we tried our best to smile and nod as our names were said. We all knew we had no place to go, but we tried anyways.
When Sally was going to go back in her house, she overheard what grandma said. “Where do we go now? If we don’t find a place to stay we’re going to perish!” “Calm down grandma. I can provide a place for all of you.” It was Sally. We all thanked her over and over again. When we went inside, we realized she had a really big house. She gave us a tour and let us decide on which room we wanted to stay in. When we were getting ready to go to bed, Sally came to my room and said, “Are you okay?” I answered, “Yes. It is awfully nice for you to do this for my family and me.” “Ah, it’s nothing. Well, good night!”
Everyone tossed and turned that night especially me. I had a nightmare that I would never see my beautiful house again.
When I woke up, it was 10:43! School started at 9:00. Then I remembered it was summer. I wouldn’t go to school anyways because I didn’t know which school to go to. Sally said she would provide everything we needed. That Sally is really nice, I thought when I was dressing. She’s like an angel. “Breakfast!” shouted Sally’s cheerful voice. I got interrupted in my thoughts. But I was happy to go to fresh breakfast anyways.
