真正的高貴

In a calm sea every man is a pilot.
海麵風平浪靜的時候,人人都可以是舵手。
But all sunshine without shade, all pleasure without pain, is not life at all.
然而陽光普照而無陰霾,快樂無限而痛苦,這根本就不是生活。
Take the lot of the happiness----it is a tangled（纏結的, 紊亂的） yarn（紗線）.
以快樂為例----這是團亂麻。
Bereavements（親人喪亡，這裏泛指不幸）and blessing（祝福）, one following another,make us sad and blessed by turns.
痛失親人與蒙受恩典的交相感受,讓我們體味出人生悲與喜的滋味。
Even death itself makes life more loving.
甚至死亡本身也能讓人生更加充滿深情。
Men come closest to their true selves in the sober moments of life, under the shadows of sorrow and loss.
在哀傷與失落的陰影下,人最為清醒, 最能接近真正的自我。
In the affairs of life or of business, it is not intellect that tells so much as character, not brains so much as heart, not genius so much as self control, patience, and discipline, regulated by judgment.
在生活與工作中, 智力不及品質, 頭腦不及內心,天才不及明智的自我約束, 耐心和紀律。
I have always believed that the man who has begun to live more seriously within begins to live more simply without.
我篤信, 內心開始領悟到生活的真諦方能開始更為平淡的外在生活。
In the age of extravagance（奢侈，鋪張）and waste, I wish I could show to the world how few the real wants of humanity are.
在這個奢侈浪費的時代裏, 但願我能讓世人明白人性真正的需求是何等之少。
To regret one's errors to the point of not repeating them is true repentance（後悔，悔改）.
對自己的錯誤後悔到不致再犯時才是真正的後悔。
There is nothing noble in being superior to some other man.
超越別人算不上高貴。
The true nobility is in being superior to your previous self.
真正的高貴在於超越從前的自我。
