萍水相逢
周二晚上兒子參加了一個本區優秀畢業生的頒獎晚餐會。這個由北岸商會讚助的年度晚餐會有些年頭了，始於1968年，到今年是第42屆。今年的晚餐會邀請了本區29所公立私立高中畢業班排名前5%的298名優秀畢業生和他們的家長。Salem州立學院院長在晚餐會上發表了演說，餐後每名到會學生上台領取一張獎狀及一對刻有名字的鋼筆和鉛筆。
按說家長也會受到邀請，我們的邀請函也許在郵寄中遺失了，非常遺憾我們未能與兒子一同前往，所以沒有晚餐會片片貼出來。鄰居說在報紙上看到了晚餐會的新聞以及優秀畢業生的名單。

CLASS ACTS: The North Shore's Honors Scholars

The top-ranked high school seniors on the North Shore will be honored for their academic achievements tonight when the North Shore Chamber of Commerce hosts its 42nd annual Honor Scholars Recognition Dinner.
The dinner will recognize nearly 300 students from 29 public and private high schools on the North Shore, all of them ranked in the top 5 percent of their graduating class.
This year’s keynote speaker will be Patricia Maguire Meservey, president of Salem State College. She will speak on “Retaining an Educated Workforce for the Future.” Following dinner and the keynote address, students will be acknowledged individually and presented with awards in the presence of their parents, educators, chamber members and community leaders.
According to chamber President Robert Bradford, “The North Shore Chamber of Commerce believes recognizing those who excel helps to provide incentive for young people to work to their highest potential and strive to be our leaders of tomorrow. Without achieving excellence in our schools, we cannot expect excellence in our work force. The chamber welcomes the opportunity to exhibit support for excellence in education on the North Shore.”
The tradition began in 1968 when the honorees were Beverly High School students, as the chamber served only Beverly. With the growth of the chamber, the dinner now accommodates an audience of more than 1,000 people and recognizes the top scholars from across the region.
The dinner will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 50 Ferncroft Road, in Danvers.
