This morning, I drove my daughter, MeiMei to school. In the car, I said to MeiMei,” daddy and mommy try very hard to make sure that you and your sister, MengMeng have a good life. It is not very easy. It can be very tough some times, because daddy and mommy were not born in America. And we were in twenties when we came to America.”
MeiMei said, “My classmates thought you were born in America. You don’t look like a Chinese American from China at all. You don't care of whether we learn Chinese or not. You don’t push us to play piano or any other activities. You don’t have Chinese accent while you speak English, and mommy does not have, either. But Mommy’s English is better than yours. My Chinese friends say that I am so lucky.”
I said, “Really? Daddy and mommy are happy as long as you are happy.”
By the way, MeiMei is the student of the month of October at her middle school.
