I remember reading about a family in Minnesota that died in a blizzard. -25 temperatures and howling winds. They were found frozen to death with all 5 of them huddled in the front seat around the floor heater vent. Car simply ran out of gas.. It's usually things like that that end up killing you.

A little lesson about life in the mountains:]
1. Hardly anyone actually lives up in the mountains because there are so many days the roads are impassable! THEREFORE, no cell phone boosters/repeaters/etc.
2. You can BARELY get radio in the mountains! You sure can't get television without cable or dish!
3. THEY HAD CELL PHONES BUT THEY WOULD NOT WORK UP IN THE MOUNTAINS!

He took the same road and got stranded. He lived for 2 months and lost something like 100 lbs before finally dying of starvation. He wrote letters to his family almost every day before he died. When they found him his truck was still covered with about 4 feet of snow, he had no chance.

candle in an empty tunafish can inside a car will keep you from freezing to death. Also in a tent or a car crack a window about an inch so your body moistures flows out with heated air, otherwise as it gets colder outside, it starts condensing on the inside and you get wet from condensation, then it's over for you!

Blankets, matches and some fuel, granola bars, collapsible shovel, and a bag of kitty litter are a must. It doesn't weigh that much.

I don't want to be trashing this poor guy, but he was very stupid. The amount of energy it took him to go winging off through this mountainous area, through thick wet brush etc...
Instead he should have simply walked back down the road they drove up. He probably spent enough of his energy trying to go across country, getting lost and all that he could have walked into down town Portland with less energy spent...and gee, if he stayed on the road back down the mountain he would not have gotten lost! His move to go winging it across country was a very stupid move, very stupid indeed!
I'll bet ya he was a DEMOCRAT, wana bet me?

You would have to be a total idiot to keep driving on a road without any road signs or even signs of life.
This guy probably never even left the streets of San Francisco in his life.
Some people die because of misfortune. Others die because of stupidity. This was a case of the later.
