Said by myself to a 香蕉人 whose parents came from Taiwan and whose father was a Yale professor, and he agreed. He spoke fluent Mandarin and lived in China for an extended period of time.
I am guessing, the last generations of Chinese painfully experienced the imperfections of the Chinese society (lacking 風度 , dishonesty) , therefore they are more impressed by the 風度 and honesty seen in western nations. Nothing wrong about this admiration, but one needs to remind oneself that Westerners were not always like this, neither were Chinese people. As well, one should know that this impression is only a surface one, something that a tourist can see. It takes more time to see deeper and the other side of the coin.
As a matter of fact, western politicians and media personalities have shown a great deal of dishonesty and a complete lack of 風度 towards China and Chinese people in the past two years.
